European Travels
This is the Eagle’s Nest, one of Adolph Hitler’s many retreats.  Located in the Bavarian Alps high above Berchtesgaden this compound is about 6,000 feet above sea level with a view that can see for miles around.  It was very strange seeing this area knowing that one of the world’s most evil men once walked across the same floor that I did. The Eagles Nest was used mainly as retreat, but was also famous for receiving state visitors that the Fuhrer wanted to impress.  It’s easy to see why.  The fire place inside the building has seen better days.  When the U.S. forces captured the Eagle’s Nest the fire place was chipped into for small stones for American and British officers and servicemen to carry home as souvenirs.  The area behind the compound rises up and allows for some pretty good (and relatively safe) rock climbing.  There were many pictures taken.  The view was incredible.  This was one of my favorite places to visit. Bar none.  Historical value is high, view is incredible, and great photo ops.
