Here it is… The castle of Godfrey of Bouillon.  One of the leaders of the first Crusade.  While I cannot agree with the wholesale massacre of Jerusalem’s inhabitants I can marvel at a true castle.  This is a castle meant for defense and one can tell that right away just by looking at it.  Lacking the lofty spires of Neuchwanstein, this motte and bailey castle was constructed with defense first. Comfort never came to mind of the architects and engineers.  I felt like a little kid exploring the nooks and crannies of this remarkable fortress.  I loved every second of it.  When I finally stepped onto the pinnacle of the castle and surveyed the surrounding area I imagined what it must have felt like to stand on top of the world and be ruler of all I surveyed.  This is not the only castle that I’ve been to, but it is by far my favorite.
