European Travels
Planes, Trains, and Automobiles: August 12-13

You might have guessed by my title that it has something to do with travel.  Also an extremely funny movie, those were my methods of travel.  I rode with my parents to the Memphis airport and stopped for a last good southern meal at Cracker Barrel.  I’m going to miss sweet tea…   Anyway, we made it there and took care of everything.  I checked my suitcase and somehow managed to pass scrutiny with my overly large carry-ons.  Security was not too much of a hassle.  Just a headache to get through due to my laptop, bags, shoes, watch, and belt.  I felt like I was halfway undressed…   However, after a while we made it onto the plane and settled in.  Before long Memphis was just a memory and we were 7 miles above the earth.  The flight was actually very enjoyable, there were entertainment systems at each seat.  Solitaire, movies, books, and mah-jong kept me occupied.  I didn’t sleep.  I can’t figure out why but I never can seem to sleep on an airplane.  We touched down in Amsterdam ten hours later.  The connecting flight was delayed so we checked out the airport.  Surprisingly large amounts of English spoken and written on signs.  The Dutch commonly know English as a second language I suppose.  After the shortest flight of my life (25 minutes) we landed in Brussels, the capital of Belgium.  We made a beeline for the airport’s train station and hopped on a train bound for Verviers.  We will be studying, sleeping, and eating there for the majority of our time in Europe.  After about an hour and a half we arrived.  Verviers is quite a beautiful city with many old buildings, and it’s medium sized.  Small enough to be pretty quiet and cozy, but large enough to have a whole lot of buildings and shops.  This actually happened several days ago, I’ve got some catching up to do. Haha  Au revoir!
